Mrs. Horton, 8th
Mrs. Horton has been with SMMS since 2021. She has completed a B.S. in Sociology and Political Science and M.A. in Community Counseling with a certificate in Guidance Counseling. Mrs. Horton has 20 years of counseling experience with 15 as a school counselor. Her favorite thing about working at SMMS is advocating and building relationships with students and families to ensure they have a voice.
Mrs. Steimel, 7th
SMMS welcomed Mrs. Steimel to the team in 2025. She had a B.M. in Music Education and an M.Ed. in School Counseling. She has worked in education for over a decade serving as band teacher in addition to a school counselor. Her favorite part of working at SMMS is creating a safe space for all students and helping them advocate for themselves.
Mrs. Rutland, 6th
Mrs. Rutland has been with SMMS since 2023. She has a B.S. in Psychology, an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy and is completing an Ed.S. in School counseling. She brings over a decade of mental health experience to our team. Her favorite part about working with Middle Schoolers is walking down the hall and feeling like a rockstar with all the hugs, high fives, and fist bumps.
Mrs. Brooky, Military
Mrs. Brooky joined SMMS in 2023 and has been serving as our Military counselor since then. She has a B.S. in psychology and a M.S. in Social Work. Mrs. Brooky has over a decade of mental health experience including working with military families. Her favorite thing about working at SMMS is building relationships with students.
Ms. Willingham, CIS
Ms. Willingham joined SMMS in 2024. She has a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies. Before becoming a part of our Communities in Schools team, Ms. Willingham was a para for several years. Ms. Willingham is a great support to students who may need extra support with attendance, academic, or behavioral concerns. Her favorite thing about working here is building connections and helping students overcome barriers to success.
